Nordic Game Conference 2024: A Retrospective
As a game tech co-founder, attending the Nordic Game Conference in 2024 was a rejuvenating experience. The event provided a much-needed respite from the solitary journey of entrepreneurship, connecting with like-minded individuals and drawing inspiration from their stories, while also catching up with others and seeing what games they are working on.
Learn From Others
Before I even arrived at the Nordic Game Conference, on the train I met a sound designer from a game studio who told me about his experience in game production from his role’s perspective. He gave me insights on the importance of sound that some may not have thought of and also made me wish there were more meetups that would talk more about sound design.
Startup Life: Persistence and Always Changing for Better
During the conference, one of the highlights was the opportunity to engage with fellow game tech founders, whose shared experiences resonated deeply with my own. Feeling a sense of camaraderie amidst the often-isolating world of entrepreneurship was truly uplifting. Arcweave's co-founder's inspiring story of their company's inception and growth after 9 months of constant iterating and pitching was a powerful reminder to persevere.
Future of Gaming: Game Design & Being Resourceful Will Be Even More Important
Another highlight was talking to an instructor from a game development school. He expressed concern with current game tech development and how it affects students. I felt that the instructor cared for the students and wanted his students to be flexible and make well-designed games that make people feel something, without only relying on visual tech. This makes me think about how we, on the game tech side, can help to foster aspiring game developers to focus on perfecting the art of game design and concepts during their journey.
Women in Games: A Sanctuary of Support
The Women in Games lunch event at the conference was a much-needed oasis, providing a safe space for women to connect, share their stories, and offer mutual support. These heart-to-heart conversations allowed us to momentarily slow down the relentless pace of the industry and recharge our batteries.
Aspiring for Recognition
Witnessing the Nordic Game Awards ceremony was an emotional rollercoaster. As I watched talented teams receive well-deserved accolades, I secretly wish one day a game made with Hology’s engine would be nominated.
A Renewed Sense of Purpose
The Nordic Game Conference 2024 left me with a renewed sense of curiosity, purpose, and determination. Connecting with industry peers, drawing inspiration from their journeys, and immersing myself in the vibrant Nordic game community has reinvigorated my passion for the craft. I return to my role as a game tech co-founder with a rejuvenated spirit, ready to tackle the challenges ahead with unwavering resilience.
