UX/UI Resources for New Game Developers
Recently in a community forum, I saw a post from a game developer talking about how UI surprised them the most when they realized it would take them hundreds of hours to make and iterate from trials and errors.
For your game to feel unique, planning, wireframing, and prototyping UI takes a lot of thought and also customization to make it an enjoyable experience for your situation. UI and UX can also determine if your players are going to continue to play the game or feel frustrated every step of the way until they just quit playing.
If you are a solo web game developer/solo game developer and feel like designing the UI/UX is like stepping into a foggy forest where you don't know what to use or where to place an element 5 feet ahead, here are 3 resources you can try that might just save your day as a beginner and to get you started:
1. 🌐 Uiverse.io: A great library for elements like buttons, toggles, and choice selections. The HTML and CSS codes are available for copy and are now able to export to React. Perfect for web game development. Link: https://uiverse.io/
2. 💻 Game UI Database: A perfect place to get inspiration and also learn from other games' UI. What I recommend is to search for the game genre you are building for, and select 5 designs to compare and contrast for similarities and differences. Link: https://lnkd.in/dAnVcG4b
3. 🎓 UX Tools: Not only do they offer a design tool database, they also offer UX design challenges and educational videos so you can learn whenever and wherever you want. Perfect place to hone your skills and help you understand the "why." Link: https://uxtools.co/
🕹️ Yes they are free.
